Frequently, available streamflow data may not be appropriate for specific needs in the form it is available. NASH will carry out activities that support research and assessment of streamflow reconstruction techniques with the intention of providing guidance on technical matters.

These general types include but are not limited to:
- Naturalization of streamflow
- Reconstruction from Tree Rings
- Rehabilitation of streamflow data
- Infilling of missing data

Such methods should consider comparing alternative methods; simulations, runoff modelling etc providing the opportunity to reconstruct and validate missing observations. Consideration should also be given to how such methods preserve hydrologically important attributes such as AR(1) and Hurst coefficient.
